6-5-1: Sonia Destri Lie

By 651 ARTS on February 28, 2014

In an effort to help our audience know more about the artists 651 ARTS presents, we have developed the 6-5-1 Interview—six questions, five minutes, one artist. This interview spotlights choreographer Sonia Destri Lie. Sonia is the Artistic Director and Co-founder of Companhia Urbana de Dança. For more information about Sonia and Companhia Urbana’s performance, click here.

  1. Where were you born & raised - City/State/Country?
    • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

  2. What’s your morning routine?
    • I talk to my cats. And after, I prepare my coffee and talk to my father and grandmothers that passed away a few years ago. I just drink the coffee and talk about the day, the plans and asking them to give me a hand! (oops almost the crazy lady!!)

  3. What qualities in a person do you admire and despise?
    • Respect is everything.

  4. If you weren’t a Choreographer/Dancer, what would you be doing?
    • Do you know that I am sure that I would be a dancer or I would be moved by dance—does not matter the job/work.  I tried few and there it was: the dance, the movement being the reason to be doing that.

  5. What’s your guilty pleasure?
    • Not to do anything!! (LOL)  Just be there…quiet and easy. No talking, no nothing. Just be! But also my pleasure is my work. I can be in rehearsal for hours…talking about ideas and possibility of movement for hours.  I love my work!

  6. If you could work on any project or with any artist (dead or alive) who or what would it be and why?
    • I would love to have a documentary, a film about the company. I think that they could be beautiful on the screen…and all the stories. I think it could be amazing. I do not know, but Cynthia Wade or Karim Ainouz. Because they are good in what they do. There is passion!

651 ARTS would like to thank Sonia Destri Lie for answering our six questions that give a better glimpse of the artists we present. Stay tuned for more artist interviews.
