BRICKS WITH MALEEK WASHINGTON, 651 ARTS ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
Presented in partnership with The Apollo’s New Works program, Bricks is new musical by Charlene Jean and Franklin Rankin, choreographed by 651 ARTS Artist-in-Residence Maleek Washington.
A mother represses the gifts of her daughter hoping to protect her innocence from a world that has torn their lives apart. But as her daughter comes of age she learns the truth of her purpose and the spirits who guide her. Will a mother’s love trump the power of the spirit world and can this sacred mother-daughter relationship survive the betrayal of lies for the sake of their own safety?

MALEEK WASHINGTON
Maleek Washington is a performer, choreographer, and teaching artist. He has choreographed for rap legend Nas’ 2022 “Big Nas MasterClass” commercial. Additionally, Washington was part of NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live and performed with Camille A. Brown and Dancers at the 2018 Ted Talk Conference in Vancouver. To-date, Washington has been a member of Camille A. Brown Dancers for five seasons, working on shows like the Grammy-winning Porgy and Bess at the Metropolitan Opera.
